A Room is a Home, is a Playground is a tactical and curious soft-sculpture animated by air. Quilted from repurposed bed linens, the piece stands as a continuous arching and looping playscape, engaging visitors in an open-ended exploration of space-making through play. Studio Rat transforms the surrounding built environment into a surreal and nostalgic stage to imagine alternate material futures, facilitated by the novel softness and childhood associations of vintage bedsheets inflated to larger-than-life proportions. As a double-membrane lanchester inflatable, the piece takes its shape from an inner tube of reclaimed plastic and an outer envelope of mixed cottons, developed along a gridded plan.
